Drywall Materials and Tools
drywalling, greenboard
Drywall, a standard construction material for finishing ceilings and inside walls, is also referred to as sheetrock, plasterboard, gypsum board, gyprock, rock lath or in some countries gibraltar board.
Drywall Types
  • Regular Drywall (White Board) comes in 1/4", 3/4", 5/8" thicknesses. 1/4" or 3/8"drywall is used for curved walls. Drywall sheets can be ordered in 4'x8', 4'x10' or 4'x12'. Large custom orders make it possible to install even longer sheets.
  • Blueboard (Gypsum Base) This drywall board has a blue top paper and is used along with thin layers of veneer plaster for a higher quality finish.
  • Greenboard has a green face paper containing a moisture resistant oil additive, making it the preferred board for humid rooms like the bathroom.
  • Concrete Backerboard, also called Durock, is used behind tiled shower walls and tub surrounds because it provides further water-resistance, beyond that of greenboard.
  • Mold-Resistant Paperless Drywall, by Georgia-Pacific Gypsum LLC, resists mold and moisture and is GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certified.
  • Enviroboard is a drywall board made from agricultural materials that have been recycled.
  • Soundboard, made from wood fibers, has a higher sound rating (Sound Transmission Class - STC) than regular drywall.
  • Soundproof drywall, QuietRock being one example, is a sound-dampening drywall with a high- performance sound rating (STC).
  • Fire-resistant Type X has extra fire-resistive ingredients added to the gypsum core to give it an increased fire rating.
Use the right drywall option for your project. While thicker drywall sheets are a little more costly, they provide better soundproofing, fire resistance and an increased R-value over thinner sheets.
Get Help from Professional Drywallers

Installing drywall can be heavy back-breaking work. Additionally, the quality of workmanship directly affects the finished look of your home's walls. So, why do it yourself? Get skilled, quality work done quickly by our professional drywall contractors!

Drywalls contractors include both drywall hangers and tapers. Hangers are also called drywall mechanics. They are professional carpenters that specialize in drywall installation. A drywaller may hang the sheets and do the finishing work of taping and mudding. Larger projects often split the work into two different teams that focus on their own part of the work. This allows them to become faster and more skilled at their work. For help finding a float crew to do your plastering work try BetterPlasteringContractors.com.
